The Health and Social Care Act 2012 sets out the Government’s vision for the future of the NHS. Under the Act Monitor's role will change significantly and during 2013 we will become the sector regulator for health care in England. Our primary duty will be to: "protect and promote the interests of people who use health care services".

This is a hugely challenging and very exciting role for Monitor and we will be taking on many new, high calibre people to fulfil our new remit.
