The NHS TDA has taken over certain functions previously managed by the Department of Health, strategic health authorities and the Appointments Commission. As a result the NHS TDA is now responsible for assessing readiness and supporting NHS trust applications for foundation trust status.
Monitor receives confirmation that applicants have received support directly from the NHS TDA. The final decision on whether a trust can be authorised as an NHS foundation trust rests with Monitor.
The NHS TDA informs Monitor of trusts which have received Secretary of State support and are ready to begin Monitor's assessment process.
