Medical Advisory Group

In 2008, Monitor formed the Medical Advisory Group.The group was established to advise Monitor's Board on its strategy for improving the quality of care provided by NHS foundation trusts.

In particular, the group supports Monitor’s Board to identify and prioritise opportunities to support NHS foundation trusts to manage quality effectively. This may include advising the Board on the development of quality management tools, best practice guidance and training materials at board, service-line and clinician level.

The group considers how Monitor can deliver its quality strategy:

  • by using its regulatory levers, including the compliance and reporting regime;
  • through the priorities for its development programme with NHS foundation trusts; and
  • how it influences the development of the healthcare system.

Membership is drawn from existing medical directors within NHS foundation trusts.
