From Consultant to CEO - putting clinical leadership at the heart of your organisation

Tuesday 10 February 2009, Victoria Park Plaza, London

This one day national conference focused on why the future well-being of the NHS is dependent on senior clinicians leading the way, creating new strategies for more responsive service delivery. It identified the leadership skills required to discharge these new duties and how clinicians can acquire them.

Service-line management (SLM) focuses on the creation of effective self-governing units within the hospital environment, allowing clinicians the autonomy to deliver improvements in both care quality and performance at specialty level. SLM is already having a profound effect in a number of hospitals where clinicians are leading change. From Consultant to CEO offered practical case studies of the successful implementation of SLM across the NHS.

Speakers included:

  • Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS Medical Director
  • Dr Jonathan Perlin, Chief Medical Officer, Hospital Corporation of America
  • Professor John Moxham, Medical Director, King’s College Hospital
  • Professor Tom Lee, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School

  • Dr Martin Baggaley, Medical Director, South London & Maudsley Mental Health Hospital
