Monitor periodically reviews recent assessments of applications for foundation trust status to identify the reasons why some have been unsuccessful. This short report sets out some of the lessons learned from applicants who have been deferred, rejected or have postponed their application.

This document provides an update to Chapters 5 and 6 and Monitor’s appendices of the 2008 Guide for Applicants and supersedes the relevant chapters in that version. Appendix B12 of this document was updated in June 2011 to bring it in line with the Compliance Framework 2011/12.

This update supersedes the relevant chapters in the November 2008 Guide for Applicants.
